Terms of Service

These terms govern any piano moving, packing, or storage service booked with Shoffner Piano Movers (“we,” “us”), a Chattanooga, Tennessee based piano moving company.

Quotes and Booking

Quotes are flat-rate, priced by piano type, and provided in writing based on the details you give us over the phone or in photos. A move is confirmed once we receive a $175 refundable deposit, which is applied directly to your final invoice — it is not an additional charge.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

Cancel or reschedule with at least 72 hours’ notice before your scheduled move and your $175 deposit is fully refunded. Cancellations made with less than 72 hours’ notice may forfeit the deposit, since a crew and truck have already been held for your move.

Liability and Valuation Coverage

Every piano we move is covered by $1M in cargo insurance. Standard released-value protection is calculated at $0.60 per pound per article unless additional valuation coverage has been arranged in advance. If a building or venue needs proof of coverage before letting the truck in, just ask Denise and she’ll get a certificate of insurance sent over ahead of your date.

Our Crew

All moving work is performed by our own directly employed crew — we do not subcontract piano moves to outside labor companies.

Access and Site Conditions

You’re responsible for describing stairs, elevators, tight doorways, or other access issues accurately when you request your quote. Undisclosed access issues discovered on move day may require a revised quote before work continues.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee.

What Makes Chattanooga Families Call Shoffner First

Restoration Background, Not Just a Rigging Crew

Owner Walter Shoffner spent twelve years rebuilding upright and grand pianos before he ever loaded one onto a truck, and that’s still who Chattanooga calls for the hardest rigging jobs.

Terrence Trains Every Rigger on Boards and Skids Before They Run Solo

New hires shadow rigging jobs under Terrence Wade until they can handle the boards, skids, and stair straps without him standing over their shoulder — nobody learns on your piano first.

Denise Confirms Access Before a Truck Ever Gets Scheduled

Stairwells, elevators, gate codes, and venue load-in windows get confirmed with the building days ahead, so a crew doesn’t show up to a piano that can’t get through the door it was measured for.

Tennessee Registration and Federal Authority, No Placeholder Numbers

Our household goods registration and our own federal DOT and MC authority are on file before you ever ask to see them — no subcontracted carrier standing in for us on move day.

A $175 Deposit That Comes Back If Plans Change

Cancel or reschedule 72 hours or more before your move date and the deposit is refunded in full — an ice storm or a closing delay doesn’t cost you anything extra.

No Fuel, Mileage, or Humidity-Season Charge Inside Hamilton County

The flat rate quoted on the phone is the flat rate on the invoice, whether the move happens in a dry October or the middle of a humid Chattanooga August.

Yolanda Crates to One Standard, Local or Long-Distance

Padding, blanket-wrapping, and crating follow the same process whether the piano is going three miles across town or three states up the interstate toward Nashville.

Riggers Who Already Know Lookout Mountain and the North Shore

Switchback driveways on Signal Mountain and narrow shotgun-house staircases downtown aren’t a surprise to a crew that rigs them regularly — the flat rate accounts for the terrain before the truck arrives.

One Crew Chief, Start to Finish

Terrence or Yolanda runs your job from the first walkthrough to the final setdown — not a different lead every time the piano changes hands.

Recent Words From People We’ve Moved

Nothing rewritten, nothing trimmed — this is what people told us after the truck pulled away.

Three flights, one landing turn, no elevator — the crew had our upright wrapped and rigged through it in under twenty minutes.

An ice storm pushed our date back five days and the quote didn’t change by a dollar — same crew, same truck, just a Thursday instead of a Saturday.

Our piano was crated for the drive to Huntsville and came off the truck exactly like it left — not one hairline crack in the finish.

Load-in for the recital happened two hours before doors, exactly when Denise said it would — the piano was tuned and ready before a single seat filled.

My grandmother’s upright is eighty years old and they moved it like they knew that — blankets on every corner, straps that never touched the finish.
